CAN USA MAKE A SUCCESSFUL HEART TRANSPLANT?
As a presidential press secretary I had the duty to inform the public about Moldova’s way in its struggle for a better future, which was unbelievable without USA assistance.
After a memorable meeting in Chișinău, at the beginning of the independence, president’s Bush, senior soils told president Snegur that Moldova has a good chance – to become a new heart of Europe.
In his view, Belgium with its capital Brussels is too old to afford new transformation which begins in the former soviet republics.
In those difficult times for Moldova – without money, without friends on the international arena, President Bush message was like manna from the heaven.
On the next day president called a new meeting in the same formula but with prime-minister and the speaker.
The American dream was repeated again.
After the working visit at the White House of the first president of the Moldova, Mircea Snegur, I have broadcast a report on the national television about his trip in the USA. For 33 minutes the audience, population from all
Moldova, had watched, proud of their choice, a hopeful report about our bright common future.
But years passed and Moldova becomes the poorest state of Europe.
What was happened with the state that was declared the pioneer of reforms in CIS?
The answer is unequivocally known: foreign army on our territory and unimaginable corruption in the Moldovan government.
The U.S., as we clearly understood, let the EU lead in Moldova.
In 2004, the European Commission included Moldova among the sixteen states in its new European Policy.
But it is impossible with Russia wielding its power through such blamable methods as exports buns, energy cut-offs and the continued deployment of its unwanted by legal authorities military troops in the separatist region.
EU must do much more to convince Russia to renounce at such unannounced embargo.
The same situation is in our times, when Moldova is a member of the Eastern Partnership.
Only USA can discuss and solve with Moscow such important international problems related to stability in the Balkans.
It’s very important to oblige Russia as the successor of the USSR to respect the independence and suzerainty of new independent states such as Moldova and Georgia.
Years pass and Moldovans as usually are sharing the dream to become a new heart of the new prosperous world without wars and big brothers.
I am sure USA can make such a successful heart transplant.
